Post  Jam264 on Tue Jan 15, 2008 11:51 am

Hi guys

Just looking for a bit of advise about a cheap way into circut racing.

Any ideas wot sort of budget i would need for the different classes. and what sort of cost the cars would be. I'm not expecting to be competitive strait away but want to learn.

Any ideas

Thanks
James

Hi James,
Before i waffle on for ages, firstly motor racing isnt cheap!! But it can be affordable Laughing Laughing
There are quite a few "starter" series but which one you choose is really determind by:
1) your initial start-up budget
2) your on-going yearly budget
3) personal preferences

Let us know how much you have to spend and then should be able to give you some viable options.

Cheers bounce

Your probably as well looking at one of the entry level classes, i.e stock hatch which is the championship that Stellaman races in. You can probably pick up a race ready xr2, 205gti or nova for anything between £1500 and £2500. The racing is close with packed grids, the entry & club fees are relatively low too.
With the cars I've listed above youre not going to set the world alight. But you will learn an awful lot.

Budget for running the car is fairly low however quite a few of the costs can catch you out.

Entry fees Approx £150 - £220 depending on whether single race or double header.
Fuel, Oil & Consumables for the racer £30-£50 per meeting.
Tow car fuel - £40-60 per meeting
Food at circuit isnt cheap (call in at tescos on the way).
Test day prior to the start of the season -£100 - £200

Then you have to look after the car in between races. engine refresh half way through the season. rolling road tune - these are up to the individual. I went a season without either but would have benefitted from both. You can go a full season on 1 set of tyres (barring punctures).

The only other thing is damage, however keep an eye on ebay & stock up on mirrors, wings & bonnet.

It does start to add up however, the buzz by far outweighs the cost.

Do it or you'll regret it

Cheers
Rich

Hi Guys

Excellent advice. Will take it all on board. Stock Hatch sounds good. Have seen the regs posted up on here.

Any Idea how I would go about getting a bit of sponsorship to help with costs etc.

Thanks
James
